Breastfeeding

education

Breastfeeding is the feeding of an infant or young child with breast milk directly from human breasts rather than from a baby bottle or other container. Babies have a sucking reflex that enables them to suck and swallow milk. Most mothers can breastfeed for six months or more, without the addition of infant formula or solid food. Human breast milk is the healthiest form of milk for human babies. Not all the properties of breast milk are understood, but its nutrient content is relatively stable. Breast milk is made from nutrients in the mother's bloodstream and bodily stores. Breast milk has just the right amount of fat, sugar, water, and protein that is needed for a baby's growth and development. Because breastfeeding uses an average of 500 calories a day it helps the mother lose weight after giving birth. The composition of breast milk changes depending on how long the baby nurses at each session, as well as on the age of the child. Scientific research, such as the studies summarized in a 2007 review for the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and a 2007 review for the WHO,has found many benefits to breastfeeding for the infant. These include: Less narcotizing enter colitis in premature infants, Greater immune health, Fewer infections, Less tendency to develop allergic diseases, Protection from SIDS, Higher intelligence, Diabetes, Obesity, Other long term health effects and its Benefits for mothers by Bonding, Hormone release, Weight loss, Natural postpartum infertility, Long-term health effects etc. Quite simply, breastfeeding is the healthiest option for you and your baby. By deciding to breastfeed, you’ll be giving your child the best possible start in life. Any period of breastfeeding, however short, will benefit your baby, but the maximum benefits are gained by feeding breast milk and nothing else until around six months, and then continuing to breastfeed after solids are introduced until your baby is a year or more old.

Human breast milk refers to the milk produced by a mother to feed her baby. It provides the primary source of nutrition for newborns before they are able to eat and digest other foods; older infants and toddlers may continue to be breastfed. The baby nursing from its own mother is the most ordinary way of obtaining breastmilk, but the milk can be pumped and then fed by baby bottle, cup and/or spoon, supplementation drip system, and nasogastric tube. Breastmilk can be supplied by a woman other than the baby's mother; either via donated pumped milk (for example from a milk bank), or when a woman nurses a child other than her own at her breast - this is known as wetnursing. The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, with solids gradually being introduced around this age when signs of readiness are shown. Supplemented breastfeeding is recommended until at least age two, as long as mother and child wish.

When a newborn sucks at his mother's breast, a hormone called oxytocin is released in the mother. This hormone causes her uterus to contract so that it can shrink back to its normal size. Getting your body back to its original state is what every post-partum mom wants. Also, having your uterus contract in size will prevent other complications like infection and hemorrhaging. Speaking of getting your body back in shape, the act of making breast milk burns calories. So, all things being equal, breastfeeding benefits for mom may include loosing weight quicker than a mother who chose to formula-feed. Don't get too excited though because breastfeeding alone will not guarantee that you will shed those extra pounds. On a long term basis, some studies show that breastfeeding women have a lesser chance of getting ovarian, uterine and breast cancers. Women who have breastfed babies also have lower rates of urinary tract infections and osteoporosis. All this however, is still undecided because some studies showed no difference in cancer rates among breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding mothers. Another benefit is that breastfeeding prevents you from having your monthly period (this is called amenorrhea). Okay, this may not be an actual "benefit", but it is definitely a "perk". The reason breastfeeding prevents monthly menstruation is because Baby's sucking prevents ovulation. When you don't ovulate, you don't menstruate. If you have had a natural childbirth, then you might be interested to know that exclusive breastfeeding is a natural way to prevent pregnancy. The sucking action by Baby prevents ovulation, and if you don't ovulate, you won't get pregnant again. In fact, you can use breastfeeding as a method of contraception. This form of natural birth control is called LAM (Lactational Amenorrhea Method) and an extensive discussion on how a baby's sucking affects a woman's fertility can be found here. Please note, LAM is not 100% effective therefore you cannot rely on it as an absolute method of preventing pregnancy. Consider this reader's comment here.In the past, royalty and rich folks wanted large families with 10+ kids. Here, the mother would hire a wet-nurse to breastfeed the newborn. By not breastfeeding her own children, the birth mother regains her normal fertility cycle and is capable of getting pregnant again. Lastly, some breastfeeding benefits for mom cannot be quantified. Many women feel a sense of calmness or ease when they are breastfeeding. This may be because breastfeeding allows you to (finally) sit down and rest for a bit. Perhaps Baby's sucking causes the release of hormones that encourages relaxation. Suffice to say that you need not feel that breastfeeding is something you do just for your baby. Breastfeeding is good for you too.

Breastfeeding now a day is a problem of world and in India it is not separate from it. The modern Indian workingwomen neglect their children and forfeit the child rights on this manner and feed bottle milk. As a result child affect with various disease due to proper nutrition and on the other side the mother effect with breast cancer. So our purpose to give proper awareness to that ladies and the legal rules of Govt.
